About University
Vardhman Mahaveer Open University was previously known as Kota Open University. The University was established on 23 Jul 1987. The idea of establishing this open university in Rajasthan State has its origin in the observations of the United Grants Commission under the Chairmanship of Late Professor G. Rama Reddy which observed that the distance system in is well established & has the potential of growing into a full-fledged Open University. The university headquarter is located at Kota & its operational jurisdiction extend to the whole of Rajasthan.
In 2015, VMOU has almost 50k new students with a learner base of more than 1,00,000 students every year. The major objective is to determine the manner of distance education system so as to organize academic programs. The establishment of the University took place with the combination of 2 institutes of correspondences courses viz. Institute of Correspondence Studies & Continuing Education, Jaipur & College of Correspondence Studies, Udaipur with a view to strengthen & achieve proper coordination.
