About Vidyasagar University
Vidyasagar University was established on 29 Sep 1981 by the VU Act 1981 of the state of West Bengal to commemorate Pandit Iswar Chandra Bandyopadhyay, who is also known as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. It is an affiliating university in the Paschim Medinipur dist.t of southern West Bengal, India. The University offers courses at the UG & PG levels. It was established with a mission to provide a solution to the education needs of the region.
The campus has a picturesque background within which afforestation programs are being undertaken. The academic departments have been publishing journals. It provides ethnic, geographical, sociocultural along with mainstream education. The University also provides distance education in PG Studies. It was established in 1994 & started offering correspondence courses in PG subjects from the session 1994-95. Courses of distance education in this university are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Distance Education Council.
