About University of Calcutta

The University of Calcutta was established on 24 Jan 1857. The Court of Directors of the East India Company sent a despatch to the Governor-General of India in Jul 1854, suggesting the establishment of the Universities of Calcutta, Madras, & Bombay.  The University adopted in the 1st instance, the pattern of the University of London & gradually introduced modifications in its constitution.

Way back in 1937 when Dr. Syamaprasad Mookerjee was the Vice-Chancellor, he requested Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore to compose a song to be adopted as the University song of the University of Calcutta. Kabiguru had composed two songs. Under the Indian Universities Act of 1904, the Governor-General-in-Council was empowered to define the territorial limits of the 5 universities i.e., Universities of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, Punjab, and Allahabad.

B.Com. 3 years Candidate should have to pass the higher secondary examination (10+2) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
B.Ed. 2 years Candidate should have to pass Degree (10+2+3) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
B.Tech. 4 years Candidate should have to pass the higher secondary examination (10+2) in physics, chemistry & Mathematics streams with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Ed. 2 years Candidate should have to pass B.Ed. in relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Sc. 2 years Candidate should have to pass B.Sc. in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Com. 3 years Candidate should have to pass the higher secondary examination (10+2) B.Com/B.B.A. in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.A. 3 years Candidate should have to pass B.A. in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Tech. 3 years Candidate should have to pass B.Tech. in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
B.Lib.I.Sc 1 year Candidate should have to pass Degree (10+2+3) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Lib.I.Sc 2 years Candidate should have to pass Degree (10+2+3) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
3-Year B.A. /B.Sc. (Hons.) in Library and Information Studies 3 years Candidate should have to pass higher secondary (10+2) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
2 year integrated B.Lib.I.Sc & M.Lib.I.Sc 2 years Candidate should have to pass Degree (10+2+3) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
5-Year Integrated MLIS 5 years Candidate should have to pass BLIS with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.B.A. 2 years Candidate should have to pass any Degree (10+2+3) in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
Ph.D. 3 years Candidate should have to pass Masters in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.
M.Phil. 2 years Candidate should have to pass Masters in a relevant stream with at least 50% aggregate marks from the recognized board.

University of Calcutta – Application Process

Step by step procedure to apply for Admissions in University of Calcutta :

  • Fill in the Online Application Form.
  • Candidates should enter all the details & choose the required password.
  • Affix Photocopies of all the required documents.
  • Soft copy of scanned passport size photo and signature in Pendrive /cd/email
  • Pay Application Fee by offline mode through e-challan generation or online mode through Debit Card/ATM Card/Net Banking.
  • Download the Application Form, take a print & keep it for further use.
