About University
Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidhyalaya was founded on 7 July 1981. It was established in the holy land of Lord Jagannath, fulfilling the long aspirations of the Sanskrit lovers of the State. An eminent scholar of Sanskrit, Sj. Janaki Ballabh Pattanayak laid down the foundation stone on July 7, 1981, at a spot of Mouza Balukhand. This University was named after the premier Deity of the eastern region Lord Jagannath. The Vishvavidyalaya office started functioning on 14th Aug 1981. Later the University was shifted to Shri Vihar Campus.
PG classes in six departments, namely Sahitya, Vyakarana, Dharmashastra, Sarvdarshan, Nyaya and Advaita Vedanta. Now there were 8 PG departments running in this university. With the establishment of this University, 142 Sanskrit institutions of the state including 5 Mahavidyalaya, 137 Vidyalayas, Pathasalas & Tools offering Prathama, Madhyama, Upashastri, Shastri & Acharya courses came under this Vishvavidyalaya. The Vishvavidyalaya has dedicated itself to the cause of preserving & promoting studies and research in Sanskrit.
