About University
Nagpur University was established on 4th Aug 1923 with 6 affiliated colleges & 927 students. The expansion of the University’s library & sports facilities occurred during these years for the intellectual & physical well being of the students. It was in 1958 that some new Departments in Arts & Social Science faculties were opened; the major expansion in 1963 when various sciences & other teaching Depts. were started. The Departments were shifted to spacious buildings on the main campus in 1972-73. Later, several career-based courses have been started i.e., Business Management, Fine Arts, Mass Communication, Library Science, Physical Education, etc.
Presently University comprises 44 PG Teaching Departments (PGTD), 3 Constituent Colleges/Institutions. 500 & 3 colleges are affiliated. The Dept. & conducted college/Institution buildings are spread in several campuses in & around the city. More than 4,00,000 students are enrolled under different courses in the university. In addition to these, the research programs in almost all 39 Departments & 3 conducted Colleges are propelled through M. Phil., Ph. D. & Post-Doc. University Hobby Workshop conducts regular training programs in the areas of Photography, Painting, Clay modeling, Carpentry, Electronics, etc.
