About College
COEP’s, The Poona Engineering Class & Mechanical School were started in Jul 1854, with an intention to present suitable training to the subordinate supervisors in the Public works dept. The School was established in Bhawani Peth, Poona & the accommodation consisted of 3 small detached houses for schooling purposes & an individual house for the Head. In June 1865 Mr. Theodore Cooke, M.A, held that employment for 28 years was appointed Head. The pillar stone of the college was laid by the Excellency of Governor, Sir Bartle Frere, on the 5th of Aug 1865.
The college was divided into three departments for matriculated and unarticulated students. In 1879 2 new classes, an Agricultural degree & a Forest class were attached to the college & the name of the college was shifted from ” The Poona Civil Engg. College ” to ” The College of Science”. Thanks to the idea in setting up such a founded at Pune, the credit for most of the civil foundation in India goes to the alumni of this college, beginning from none other than the most towering & illustrious engineers, Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, in whose honor “Engineers Day” is celebrated.

Eligibility Criteria
- UG Courses – Have to pass 10+2 or equivalent exam from the recognized board.
- PG Courses – Have to pass Bachelors’s in relevant discipline or any equivalent courses with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from the recognized University.
- PG Diploma Courses – Candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent course in relevant discipline with 50% of marks from a recognized university.
- Ph.D. Courses – Have to pass the Masters or M.Phil. in relevant discipline from the recognized University.

Is the College of Engineering Pune good?
Despite being a State Engineering college, CoEP has the same values as an IIT. Also, the college is located in the heart of the Pune in Shivaji Nagar. Overall this is a very great college to seek graduation from. Here one gets a very good experience of college life & academics.
Is COEP better than IIT?
Ans. Applying the same basic modules, the total aptitude score of CoEP is 550 which is way down compared to IIT. Of course, it is marginally better compared to NIT in spheres such as quantitative, logical ability, computer programming, and E&S.
